Tear stains are not dirt — they are chemistry
Tears carry porphyrins, the iron-rich pigments the body sheds through the tear ducts. On a light coat they oxidise in daylight to that familiar reddish-brown, and the damp fold underneath holds them there†. Our wipes lift the pigment while it is still loose and leave the skin calm, with chamomile, calendula and colloidal oatmeal doing the soothing.
Wipe daily. The stain that never gets the chance to set is the one you never have to work at.

Three Steps to a Clear Face
One wipe, three jobs: lift the pigment, calm the skin under it, and keep the fold dry so it does not come straight back.
1. Lift
Porphyrin is a pigment, not a crust, and it lifts most easily while it is still fresh. The textured face of the wipe carries a mild coconut-derived cleanser that takes pigment and food residue away without scrubbing — which is the part that matters, because the skin under a tear track is thin and usually already sore.

2. Soothe
The fold beneath the eye stays damp, and damp skin gets irritated. Chamomile and calendula are the two botanicals with the longest history behind them for settling that kind of irritation, and colloidal oatmeal holds a little moisture in the skin without leaving anything greasy behind.

3. Protect
Staining comes back because the fur stays wet. Wiping the fold dry each day is what breaks that cycle, and aloe, green tea and vitamin E are here to help skin that gets handled daily hold up to it. It is the every-day part, not the strength of the wipe, that does the work.

The Evidence
Porphyrin staining is well described in the veterinary dermatology literature, and the botanicals we wipe it away with are long-standing topical soothers. Our own companion-animal work is in planning — we will publish it here when there is something real to show.
Every Active Has Evidence Behind It
Every ingredient is here because the evidence earned it a place — chosen for what they do together for staining, comfort, and skin that gets handled every single day.
Coconut Cleansers
1. Lift
Caprylyl glucoside is a sugar-and-coconut surfactant — the mildest class there is, and the one used in tear-free formulas for exactly that reason. It is what actually lifts pigment and food residue off the fur, and it is chosen for how little it strips rather than how much it foams.
Cucumber Extract
1. Lift
Cucumber extract is mildly astringent, which is the property that matters here: it helps the fold beneath the eye dry down rather than staying damp. It is also the traditional cooling compress for tired eyes, and it earns its place in a wipe for both reasons at once.
Chamomile
3. Protect
Chamomile is the oldest soother in the box and still the best evidenced of the mild ones. The bisabolol and apigenin in the flower are what settle irritated skin, which is the job on a tear track — the fur is stained, but it is the skin underneath that is uncomfortable.
Calendula
2. Soothe
Calendula sits alongside chamomile because the two work on different parts of the same problem: chamomile calms, calendula supports the skin barrier as it recovers. It is a standing fixture in gentle topical care for animals and has been for a very long time.
Colloidal Oatmeal
2. Soothe
Colloidal oatmeal is finely milled whole oat, and it is the one topical soother a dermatologist will name without being asked. The beta-glucans in it hold water against the skin, which is what keeps a fold that gets wiped daily from drying out and flaking.
d-alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
2. Soothe
Vitamin E does two jobs in a wipe. It supports skin that is being handled every day, and it keeps the botanical oils in the formula from oxidising on the shelf — the same bodyguard role it plays in the rest of the range, on the tub as much as on the animal.
Aloe Vera
1. Lift
Aloe leaf juice is the reason the wipe leaves the skin feeling settled rather than tight. It carries a little moisture into the fold and holds it there without a film, which is what lets a daily wipe stay comfortable rather than becoming something the animal learns to duck.
Green Tea Extract
3. Protect
Green tea is here for the polyphenols, which are among the better-studied plant antioxidants for skin exposed to daylight — and daylight is precisely what turns a porphyrin deposit brown. It is the quiet ingredient in the formula and the one doing the most preventive work.

Myths and Facts
1
Tear stains are just dirt
The Truth: They are porphyrins — iron-rich pigments the body sheds through tears and saliva, which then darken in daylight. That is why they turn up on a pristine indoor dog that never sees a puddle, and why scrubbing harder does not help.
2
A wipe is a cosmetic, so it hardly matters what is in it
The Truth: It sits on thin skin a few millimetres from the eye, every single day. That is exactly why ours carries no bleach, no peroxide, no alcohol and no antibiotic — and why every botanical in it is one of the mild ones.
3
Staining always means something is wrong with the diet
The Truth: Sometimes it does. Blocked tear ducts, shallow eye sockets, teething and allergies all show up looking the same. If the staining is new, sudden, or on one side only, that is a conversation with your vet rather than a job for a wipe.
4
Once the fur is stained it just has to grow out
The Truth: Stained fur does have to grow out — nothing lifts pigment that is already set into the hair shaft. What a daily wipe changes is the new growth, because you are stopping the next stain rather than bleaching the last one. That is why it looks slow for a fortnight and then does not.
